Leading with Purpose
LaResha Huffman joined Sausalito Marin City School District (SMCSD) as Superintendent in June 2023. Before this role, she served as Associate Superintendent/Chief Academic Officer for Educational Services at West Contra Costa Unified School District (WCCUSD) from July 2021 to June 2023. She also spent over 16 years in Oakland Unified School District (OUSD), where she held key leadership positions, including Network Superintendent, Deputy Network Superintendent, Director of Instruction, and Principal at Hoover Elementary.

With experience in some of the most diverse school districts in the country, LaResha is committed to a vision that blends high-quality instruction, social-emotional investment in students, principal development, and operational excellence. Throughout her career, she has led significant improvements in student achievement, principal growth, attendance, suspension rates, and overall leadership satisfaction. Before her time in OUSD and WCCUSD, she also served as Dean of Students at Aspire and taught middle and high school in charter and Catholic schools.
Born and raised in the Bay Area, LaResha earned her B.A. in English with a Minor in African-American Literature from Cal State Hayward. She holds an M.A. in Educational Leadership from San Francisco State University and an M.A. in Adult Education. LaResha is married and a proud mother of two daughters—one currently in public school and the other pursuing a nursing degree in college.
